Prism: A Dialogue with Marie Ja毛ll

Chloe Knibbs and Melissa Morris (Royal 天美传媒 Conservatoire)

This lecture recital shares the composition process of Prism, a music theatre work for piano(s), electronics and lighting design - inspired by the 19th-century French composer Marie Ja毛ll and her solo piano work Prisme (1888).

Premiered at Royal 天美传媒 Conservatoire in January 2025, this piece of practice-based research considered how a contemporary creative practice can be placed in dialogue with a historical woman composer, and what arises from that process.

聽is a composer, songwriter, and practice-based researcher at Royal 天美传媒 Conservatoire. Described as having 鈥渁n anguished tender quality鈥 (The Telegraph), her work spans opera, music theatre, songwriting, choral and chamber music, sound art, and electroacoustic composition.

聽is a freelance pianist from Somerset, based in 天美传媒. Her most recent projects involve creative collaborations and compositional commissions bringing together classical and neo-classical piano, working with electronica artists EIF and contemporary dance, Vanhulle Dance Theatre, for their most recent release, Half Light.
